Having the cold wind of the holiday season blowing at you could get you all lazy when it comes to exercising outdoors but with the use of an indoor bike trainer, exercising will never be the same again. That is because an indoor bike trainer offers the same health benefits of biking outdoors minus the safety hazards that you otherwise could possibly encounter outdoors.

As a note, the indoor bike trainer should not be confused for the stationary bike that you usually see in fitness gyms because the bike trainer is a device where you can have your own bike set up so you can do stationary biking indoors. This is very advantageous for those who would rather go biking than jogging as their fitness regimen since they get to use the same bike they use outdoors in an indoor setting.

Biking, as an exercise is not just ordinary pedaling as one would do in leisurely biking. There are techniques that you should apply to be able to effectively burn excess fats in your body. One such technique is to pedal on one leg.

This technique is great for toning and strengthening the leg muscles. To do this, start pedaling with one leg at about 60 revolutions per minute for 1 whole minute while maintaining a smooth pedaling motion. After that, pedal with both legs at a slower pace for 2 minutes maximum, then start the procedure again with the other leg; you can alternate the left and the right leg until such time when they feel tired.

Exercising for weight loss has to include an effective cardio routine, which is needed to increase the heart rate thus burning excess fats in the body for which biking is just that kind of cardio exercise. But there is a biking technique that you can use on your indoor bike trainer that is more efficient at burning calories that can be done in as little as 30 minutes.

What you must do is to alternate pedaling speed first at a slower pace then at a faster pace for about 30 seconds repeating the process until the 30-minute mark is reached or if you have more time to spare for exercising you can repeat the process for as long as you prefer. In doing this exercise, do remember to allow for resting periods in between 30 seconds to allow yourself to catch a breath.

A fun exercise on your bike trainer is to imagine as if you are riding the bike downhill or uphill and imitating the motions one would do in biking on those terrains such as standing up where you will have to exert extra effort. You can also achieve the effect of biking downhill or uphill by shifting gears.

The holidays are the time when people get together in different parties and using an indoor bike trainer will be a great way to keep you fit in time for the festivities so you could look and feel good about yourself. As the holidays is the time to enjoy food, you do not have to worry so much about gaining more weight than usual since you have lost the excess weight that would have otherwise make you heavier.
